Be Anyone, Be No One - The Rise of Synthetic Identities

How can we analyse/categorize synthetic media’s key identity-shaping components and their impact on society?

Synthetic identities are shaped through managing the performance, appropriation or alteration of personas in cyberspace. Discussions on synthetic identities have become most timely and decisive since the rapid advances of technology bring in their wake tremendous challenges and constant transformations for our society. This trend study aims to serve as a mediation piece in a world where it feels as if technology makes a major leap forward every time someone sneezes. The collected phenomena have served as inspiration to design a written artefact that serves as a medium for readers to decode speculative scenarios through science fiction stories. That said: welcome to the era of synthetic identities where you can be anyone, where you can be no one. All at the same time.

N0-B0D1ES invites readers to travel into speculative scenarios. Through trend research, design and future scenarios methodologies, the sci-fi short stories were written to speculate on different scenarios in which synthetic media develop even further and merge with other technologies. After each story, readers find commentary pages based on hard facts from the now (now as of May 2022).
