We [the many] Ting Self
“We [the Many] Ting Self” is a critique of visual communication design education in the majority world, specifically in Trinidad and Tobago. Design education as taught from a Eurocentric perspective enforces structures that tend to be prejudiced and discriminatory against indigenous ways of making and creating, due to its entangled history. The design education in previously colonized countries should include theories such as decoloniality and plurality to explore and promote indigenous ways of making and creating. Through analyzing the visual design language of Trinidad and Tobago, I aim to provide an example of how designers from and in the majority world can continue to integrate their local design language into their practice.
