Sensitive Material
Accidents are part of everyday life, unavoidable and an invisible threat. Despite the association with horror and destruction, we can look at accident images as something beautiful and even attractive. How come? In search of these facets of accidents, I examine existing images—images from the archive of the Zurich City Police, dashcam video sequences or stills from films. I juxtapose these with my personal photographic journeys to accident sites and damaged vehicles. Through photography, I hope to better understand the appeal of accident images, reflect on my experiences with photography, and thus find clues as to what makes them captivating
