Power & Presence

How can fantasies of power or agency-focused game mechanics be developed for VR that do not disrupt the presence in the virtual space?

The emergence of virtual reality in the shape of VR home systems opens up a new market for the games industry. In this context, game developers are looking at easily translatable mechanics from familiar game genres. However, in order for these to work, «immersion» must be designed, either using technological advances or ever larger game spaces in the real world.

This work deals with presence in virtual reality and possible design approaches in order to enhance the experience in the virtual environment as a fantasy of power. Several experiments are designed and implemented to examine power fantasies in VR. These will be documented and assembled in a short VR adventure game.
